deputyfrontMiguel Barbosa Huerta, deputy coordinator of the Labor Party and PRD member,

Angélica de la Peña Gómez, agreed that the Mexican government should demand the extradition of Lucero Sánchez López, the “Chapodiputada” who is detained in the United States for alleged ties to drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera. Barbosa Huerta was saddened by the fact that once again it seemed the U.S. authorities did the job that should have been done by the Mexican ones.

He mentioned how Lucero Sánchez López had committed crimes in Mexico she needs to be tried for, hence the request for extradition. “I think the Mexican government should ask for her extradition, so that the process could be done here and we could know the links, the data, the information she has about organized crime and drug trafficking,” said Barbosa Huerta.

De la Peña Gómez, agreed that the “Chapodiputada” should be extradited to Mexico. But in turn she questioned the lax attitude of law enforcement authorities, which allowed Sánchez López, who already had been charged for the use of false documents, to travel to the United States, where she asked for political asylum.

“If the authorities were building a case against her, the first thing we have to ask ourselves is how did they let her go? How did she cross the border to go to the United States? This draws attention to the fact that justice authorities were not properly informing the border authorities when dealing with such cases. Which is how these irregularities happen,” he said.

Sánchez López was arrested at the San Diego, California border and faces charges in the United States for alleged conspiracy.
