Global payment services company Western Union will launch a direct-to-bank money transfer service from the US to Mexico through Mexican lender Banorte's payment processing subsidiary UniTeller.

The service builds on a five-year partnership deal between Banorte and Western Union singed in April 2013.

The service will be available for transfers to Banorte accounts later this quarter, before being expanded to include other Mexican banks, according to a Western Union release.

Customers will be able to transfer money at participating retail agent locations in the US or via a Western Union mobile app.

Banorte's UniTeller network also covers top Mexican lenders BBVA Bancomer and the local unit of Scotiabank, as well as development bank Bansefi. The payment processing unit is also present throughout much of Central America, as well as in Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru and Uruguay.

"With this agreement, beneficiaries of remittances in Mexico will find it very convenient to open an account at our bank and directly receive the funds through Western Union with the benefit of value added banking services," said Banorte's head of international banking, trade finance and financial institutions, Ricardo Velázquez.

Remittances to Mexico from January to November 2014 came to US$21.407bn, up 6.8% year-on-year, according to the country's central bank. Total remittances to Mexico in 2013 were US$21.9bn.

Nayarit’s culinary offerings were recognized by the Federal Government’s State Department, which singled out the prestigious chef as one of the country’s best

The many flavors of Riviera Nayarit are the destination’s calling card to the world, especially now that Mexico’s State Department named the renowned Betty Vásquez, Nayarit’s gastronomic ambassador, to its list of the country’s top chefs.

The recognition was awarded days after Vásquez placed second in Harbourfront Centre’s International Hot & Spicy Iron Chef Festival, which was celebrated on September 2nd. Her participation was sponsored by the Mexico Tourism Board and the Mexican Consulate in Toronto, Canada.

“I’m thrilled because this recognition wasn’t given only to me: it was given to the entire region of Nayarit and this will allow us to promote the state based on its gastronomy. Besides, it comes right on the heels of a very tight competition. During the semifinals in the Iron Chef we had a very close call with the Canadian chef’s team. That day I presented a tribute to the milpa, which is our sustenance: I made a pre-Hispanic mole sauce with pumpkin seeds, black rice with cuitlacoche and squash with corn. To this I had to integrate the secret ingredients of the day: tea and chicken,” said Nayarit’s acclaimed gastronomical ambassador.

Betty-Vázquez-Added-to-Mexicos-State-Department-List-of-Top-Chefs“The final was up against the Hawaiian Ippy Aiona, with whom I enjoyed great chemistry throughout the event; we became fast friends. I presented a mole sauce with three chiles and a plantain garnish, a nopal cactus salad and sweet potato marinated with chile. But the challenge of integrating the secret ingredient, sauerkraut, into the recipe was very tough,” said Chef Vásquez.

The chef also highlighted the important exposure received by the destination thanks to the extensive media coverage, but, above all, she cherished her new friends. “There are already plans for Ippy Aiona to come cook with us in Riviera Nayarit, and for us take our dishes to Hawaii,” she said.

The CVB, a nonprofit organization that works directly under the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association to promote all of Riviera Nayarit, stated that events like these serve to promote tourism and thus enhance the development of all of Nayarit’s citizens, per the directives of the People’s Governor, Roberto Sandoval Castañeda

hurricane-protectionRecently, Barceló Puerto Vallarta was certified as a hurricane shelter, awarded by the Disaster Prevention Department, Fire Department and the System for Integral Family Development (DIF) of Puerto Vallarta, being the first hotel of the Municipality in achieving this recognition and thus being able to support about 200 people in the case of a disaster.

At a press conference, the president of DIF, Magaly Fregoso Ortiz, congratulated the managers of Barceló Puerto Vallarta, for being the first establishment of its kind to have its own temporary shelter, assigned in the lounge of the Hotel La Jolla with a capacity to serve 184 families.

The Barceló Hotel staff received the training that they needed by the involved agencies. Luis Conde, deputy director of Systems, said that prior to the enablement of spaces and in addition to training, drills were held. He explained that within the organization they have five basic areas: cooking, health and hygiene, cleanliness, order, surveillance, and educational and recreational activities.

Sergio Ramirez, head of the municipal unit of Disaster and Fire Prevention Department said that shelters like the one that was enabled by the Barceló Puerto Vallarta can mitigate the effects of a disturbing phenomenon such as a hurricane. "We're betting to reduce all chances that something could happen and that if it does, everyone has the ability to give an immediate answer, this is what we are achieving with the Barceló Hotel", he said.

The assistant manager of municipal Tourism, Enrique Tovar, also acknowledged the effort made by the directors of Barceló Puerto Vallarta for providing guests with safe spaces and trained staff to serve them. He said that such projects increase the safety of tourists visiting the hotel and destination.

Earlier this year, Barceló Puerto Vallarta was awarded the Regional Award Winner by Check Safety First, received the recertification of Four Diamonds Award 2013 bestowed by the Triple A, has earned the Distinction H and Distinction S given by the Ministry of Tourism, and recently was given the Certificate of Excellence 2013 by Tripadvisor. At present, it is in the process of getting the ISO 9001:2008 certification, which they hope to complete before the end of the year.

avacasIn Jalisco, the price of beef to the consumer registers an increase of at least 20%, in the last days. The cause is the increase in livestock exports, particularly to Turkey and Jordan, where livestock was involved Jalisco.

Salvador Alvarez Moran, treasurer of the National Confederation of Livestock Organizations (CNOG), said the export of cattle and calves, improving producer income, since the live animal has been almost 40 pesos per kilogram to sale abroad, and over 30 pesos for domestic sales.

The price increase is to offset positive impacts of livestock nutrition inputs, and losses that were taken by the drought environment of recent months.

For dairy producers, the situation was urgent, as has been the pressure to sell cows in production, which for the dairy herd of Jalisco has brought losses of 20% of their bellies, around 180,000 cows unless have in inventory.

Now you have a serious challenge in the recovery of cows sold, as this is only feasible with the capitalization of the stables, which is difficult for a number of producers.

The CNOG contemplated that in the next six years is perfected Incentives Program Livestock (Progan) and increase the incentives for each head of cattle.

Puerto Vallarta, Jal.-Barra de Navidad is routed to a recovery in the flow of visitors who come to this place every year, so there is optimism among hoteliers and service providers in this coastal delegation of the municipality of Cihuatlan.

Thus they agreed representatives of various public and private bodies within the framework of the Festival of the Mexico-Philippines friendship that was carried out between Friday and Sunday in this tourist destination on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the first issue of our country to that Asian country.

The memorial ceremony for these events was headed by the Ambassador of the Philippines in Mexico, Catalino Dilenn, and the head of the Ministry of tourism in Jalisco (SECTURJAL), Enrique Ramos Flores, on behalf of the Governor of the State, Jorge Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz.

The Asian diplomat recalled the points of coincidence and the historical ties that bind both Nations, then that for more than 300 years the Philippines were under the administration of the new Spain, and that was through our country how began trade between Asia and the West.

He recalled the twinning of Barra de Navidad with the Philippine town of Vigan, first point of the island where arrived the Spanish military Miguel López de Legazpi and Urdaneta André friar, they sailed from Jalisco town of November 21, 1564 and reached 90 days later.

At the time, Enrique Ramos Flores recalled that many words of language Tagalog, which is spoken among Filipino natives, are of origin nahualt.

"Sister us a vast artistic when Mexico administered on behalf of Spain to the Philippine Islands and thousands of Spaniards or Mexicans came to those Asian lands and already did not return, establishing his permanent residence in those lands", declared the owner of SECTURJAL.

In the framework of the celebrations for this important event in the history of Barra de Navidad, arose bands of different municipalities of the State and dances, as well as various artistic activities and Fireworks.

There was also a solemn session of meritorious society of geography and statistics of Jalisco, where the importance of this geographical point in Mexico and the facilities was weighted so began an expedition to be so unattainable that originated the international trade between Asia and the West 450 years ago.

Eduardo Velasco, President of the Agency, led the academic work in the presence of the Ambassador of the Philippines in Mexico and the Secretary of tourism in Jalisco.

After these activities, Ramos Flores met with hoteliers and service providers, who reiterated the unconditional support of the Government of Jalisco to teamwork and open new expectations after the recovery of the beach.

He noted that 80 percent of tourism arriving at Barra de Navidad came from the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, so it did not rule out joint promotional campaigns in the Jalisco capital between Colima and Jalisco.

Los Arcos National Marine Park -- Arguably one of the most recognizable landmarks in Puerto Vallarta, the gorgeous arches are perfect for sunset photo ops and romantic picnic dinners. The arches also create an amphitheater. Along the Bahia Banderas (Banderas Bay), lie an array of sand sculptures, art pieces, street performers, and local vendors. Visitors can take a quiet walk along the oceanfront walkway and make stops along the way to enjoy the scenery.

Botanical Gardens of Vallarta -- Located just a half hour south of the city, Bella Travel Network knows that these gardens will provide a delightful way to spend a couple of hours away from all of the hubbub of the city. Boasting a wide assortment of wild flowers and walking paths, the gardens offer colorful views and aromatic pleasures. Visitors will find the location not only relaxing but also quite romantic.

Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe -- A trip to Puerto Vallarta would not be complete without a visit to the iconic landmark church. Beautifully constructed out of red brick, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe marks an impressive figure. Mass is still held in this historical building and the harmonic bells ring regularly before each mass.

Lighthouse On Matamoros -- Although no longer guiding boats in from the harbor, the lighthouse serves as the perfect place for a panoramic view of the city and the ocean below.

Photographers love the view and the abundance of photography subjects. Visitors can spend some time and take in the beauty of the city while exploring the lighthouse. Originally built in 1932, the lighthouse was closed in 1978. It was remodeled in 2006 so that visitors could enter.
