Airport on Pause Due to Hurricane Lidia

The operations board of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport decided, in a morning meeting, to suspend operations due to the passage of Hurricane "Lidia." This decision has been made to mitigate potential inconveniences that may arise from the meteorological phenomenon. The airport will remain closed from 4:00 PM today until 8:00 AM on October 11, 2023.

The Category 3 hurricane is expected to make landfall at approximately 6:00 PM between Mayto Tehualmixtle and Aquiles Serdán in the municipality of Cabo Corrientes. It will then move across the mountains and reach Puerto Vallarta around 8:20 PM. Although it is approaching from the mountains, it is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall and winds of around 165 km/h. Therefore, the operations board of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport has decided to halt operations for the remainder of the day.

Volaris had already canceled its flights from yesterday for the same reasons.

As an airport group and as an airport, we have been preparing since we became aware of this phenomenon, following well-established standards and protocols. If necessary, we will remain vigilant during this event. Crysthian José Amador Lizardi, the administrator of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, reported.

It is strongly advised to take shelter at home, protect windows, ensure there are no loose sheets or debris that could be carried away by the hurricane-force winds, and have an emergency kit ready with provisions, flashlights, batteries, candles, lighters, and keep your mobile phones charged.
