Interview with the oral and maxillofacial surgeon:
What area includes oral and maxillofacial surgery?
It is focused on the area of the mouth and face. It could be divided first into two large areas, on the one hand, facial surgery that covers functional, aesthetic and reconstructive aspects of the face, for example, problems with mandibular function, facial fractures, asymmetries or alterations of the mandibular development, mentoplasty, facial liposuction etc. On the other hand, mouth surgery, such as retained teeth, bone grafts and dental implants.
What type of surgeries can be performed in an office?
Those that require local anesthesia or conscious sedation, for example, dental implant surgery or retained teeth. Those in which the patient needs to be under general anesthesia, are performed in a hospital operating room to make the patient more comfortable, and the operation is safe.
Where did you study?
In different hospitals in Mexico, with multiple expert surgeons around the country. My home was the civil hospital of Guadalajara, the largest in Latin America, in addition to Dr. Stuart Super, one of the most experienced surgeons in the world in correction of alterations of the facial skeleton, graduated from Harvard, I had the opportunity to deepen knowledge in this Lenox Hill hospital area in Manhattan, New York.
Do you belong to any association?
I am a surgeon certified by the Mexican Council of Maxillofacial Surgery, a member of the Mexican Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons among others. I am a professor of a degree in dentistry and postgraduate studies at the Cuauhtemoc University of Guadalajara.
After visiting so many hospitals and cities in Mexico and the USA, why Puerto Vallarta?
I am originally from Puerto Vallarta and I have always been committed to offering world-class care in this beautiful city, here the friendly spirit of local people and the relaxed atmosphere of national and foreign vacationers is spread; I love Puerto Vallarta, so I do not skimp on using technology and techniques of national and international avant-garde.
What message do you send to your patients?
For local patients, know that they no longer need to leave the city in search of specialized care. To my foreign patients who enjoy the port: that they will notice incredible savings of around 50% of what it would cost in countries like the United States and Canada.
