A Spectacular Performance by Wim Vandekeybus' "Última Vez" Company at Teatro Vallarta

On August 2nd of this year, the renowned contemporary dance company "Última Vez" will present the captivating work "Trace" by internationally acclaimed choreographer Wim Vandekeybus. For the first time ever, Puerto Vallarta will witness a world-class dance performance of this caliber.

Wim Vandekeybus is a highly esteemed artist who directs the "Última Vez" company. Born in Belgium in 1963, his artistic endeavors span across various mediums, including painting, film, photography, music, theater, and dance. Vandekeybus serves as a director, choreographer, and set designer. In 1987, he embarked on his choreographic journey, debuting the performance "What the Body Does Not Remember" in collaboration with creator Jan Fabre. Since then, he has created over twenty shows, including film and video dance productions, earning widespread recognition for his artistic career. Vandekeybus is a multidisciplinary stage artist who incorporates other art forms into his dance creations, resulting in truly original spectacles.

"Trace" is a work inspired by the natural beauty of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, a precious reserve within our ancient continent. It explores the tension between time standing still and time relentlessly propelling forward, heedlessly rushing ahead. This performance juxtaposes the concept of animal time with human time. In "Trace," Wim Vandekeybus follows his own traces, reflecting upon the intuitions that sparked the creation of his theatrical engines of impulses and instincts—the interplay of energies and intensities. Vandekeybus seeks traces older than humanity itself, beyond mere personal memories. He delves into the internal history, the narrative that unfolds beyond language, only expressible through the pulsation of dance and music.

The "Última Vez" company, which interestingly takes its name from the Spanish language, made its debut in the mid-80s and immediately garnered a "Bessie" award. Over the past decades, they have showcased their work all around the globe, leaving an indelible mark on the evolution of modern dance with their unique style. Through their movement language, they juxtapose intuition, generating impulses and instinctual energy, embracing risk and danger. Vandekeybus' works are characterized by an almost obsessive repetition of a single question: How does the human being respond to extreme situations?

"Trace" will be presented at Teatro Vallarta on August 2nd at 8 pm. Tickets are available at the box office.
